Upload or create a document in the matter when it belongs to client work. Use the firm document library to search across work you are permitted to see. Names should identify the artifact without exposing sensitive content unnecessarily.
Version history is for successive states of one document. A materially different artifact should be a separate record.
Matter notes are lightweight records for facts, strategy, checklists, and internal context. They open inside the matter and can be linked directly. Do not use a note as a substitute for a signed, filed, or otherwise authoritative document.
Document and matter templates should contain reusable wording, fields, stages, or work patterns. Before publishing a template, remove names, amounts, dates, and confidential content inherited from its source.
Apply a template, then review the generated work before relying on it. Templates reduce repetitive setup; they do not make professional decisions.
