HR software for a law firm should hold a record for every member of the firm, handle leave and internal requests, publish policies and track who has read them, and give people a confidential route to raise a grievance. Law firms also need to track continuing legal education and performance reviews, and to keep HR data separate from client work while sharing the same list of people.
LawAOS includes a people directory with a member record for each person, with tabs for Profile, Work, Requests and Leave, Payslips, Resources, Access and Activity. Leave, Ask Hub requests, versioned policies, a notice board, private wellbeing check-ins, review cycles, recruitment and CLE sit in the same workspace, and departments group people into child workspaces.
Because the HR records share one permission model with matters and billing, the member a partner assigns to a matter is the same member whose leave and CLE progress HR sees.
- Profile management
- Each member record holds profile and work details, the requests and leave they have made, their payslips, resources and access, and an activity history.
- Leave with caps
- Leave types carry monthly or annual caps and are paid or unpaid. The database refuses an approval that would exceed the cap, and balances are shown to the member.
- Internal requests
- Ask Hub takes Help, IT support, Facilities, Leave, HR, Grievance, Harassment, Whistleblow and Other requests, each moving through open, in review, approved, denied, resolved, closed or withdrawn, with one appeal.
- Policies and notices
- Policies are versioned and can require acknowledgement with counts of who has acknowledged. The notice board posts to the whole firm or one department with comments, reactions and read tracking.
Grievance, harassment and whistleblow requests in Ask Hub are always confidential. That confidentiality is enforced in the database, so the request is restricted to the people the firm authorizes to handle it.
Wellbeing check-ins are private to the member and managers cannot see them. A firm pulse is shown only for weeks with at least five respondents, and only to people who hold the permission to view it.
A firm of five mostly needs a directory, a leave record and a written policy set. At twenty, leave caps, department notices and review cycles start to matter because one person can no longer keep track by memory. Above that, a confidential grievance route and policy acknowledgement records become part of how the firm shows it treats people fairly. LawAOS includes all of these on every plan, so a firm switches them on as it grows.

Stated plainly, so you can decide before you sign up rather than after.
- There is no employee onboarding workflow for new starters.
- Payroll does not calculate tax of any kind; tax is an amount the firm enters as a deduction.
- Payslips are CSV, not PDF.
- There is no integration with an outside HR or payroll provider.
