A law firm financial dashboard should show, on one screen, where the firm's money is in its cycle: work done but not billed (WIP), invoices issued but not paid (accounts receivable, grouped by age), and money collected. Next to those it should show the drivers: hours recorded by each fee earner against their target, realization after write-downs, and the collection rate.
The test of a good legal practice dashboard is whether each figure can be clicked through to the records behind it, and whether the same numbers appear in reports that can be compared with a prior period.
LawAOS has a rearrangeable dashboard with widgets for AR ageing (Current, 1-30, 31-60, 61-90 and 90+ days, with click-through), billable and non-billable hours by member, cumulative hours against pace to target, team workload and upcoming docket. The Reports module adds unbilled WIP by age, billed, collected, realization, collection rate, effective rate and utilisation.
- Unbilled WIP and WIP by age
- Work recorded but not yet invoiced. Old WIP is the first sign of a billing backlog.
- Realization
- How much of the recorded value was billed after write-downs, which LawAOS records in pre-bill review.
- Collection rate and expected collections
- How much of what was billed has been paid, and what the firm can expect to receive.
- Effective rate
- What the firm earned per hour once write-downs and fee arrangements are taken into account.
- Utilisation
- Each fee earner's recorded hours against the monthly target the firm sets for them.
- Top clients
- Clients ranked by amount received and by amount outstanding.
The Reports module has tabs for Overview, Financial, Attorney Performance, Matter Analytics, Client Insights, a custom report builder, Scheduled reports and Firm-wide, which rolls up departments. Every report compares with the prior period and exports to CSV, and an AI Explain this period summary describes what changed.
Scheduled reports send a Firm Summary, Attorney Performance, Matter Analytics, Financial Summary, Client Insights or AR Aging report by email daily, weekly or monthly, so partners get the figures without logging in.
Buyers searching for AR automation for law firms often want two things: automatic collections, and cash application, which means matching incoming bank payments to open invoices without a person. LawAOS does neither of those. What it does is narrower: a daily job flags invoices as Overdue and notifies their creator, the AR ageing widget shows who owes what and for how long, and a person records each payment against its invoice, which then posts to the ledger.
Set targets
Set each fee earner's monthly hours target on the Work tab of their member record so utilisation and pace-to-target figures have something to measure against.

Stated plainly, so you can decide before you sign up rather than after.
- LawAOS has no pricing or rate-analytics dashboard; the Services page is a fee catalog, not rate analysis.
- There is no cash application: incoming bank payments are not matched to invoices automatically, and payments are recorded by a person.
- Collections are not automated beyond the daily Overdue flag, the notification to the invoice creator and an AI-drafted reminder a person sends.
- Utilisation figures need hours targets set for each fee earner.
- Scheduled reports need an email provider configured.
