Signatures

LawAOS has e-signature built in: send an editor document with a signature block, route it to signers in order or in parallel, and the executed PDF lands in the matter with its certificate of completion.

Electronic signature software for lawyers sends a document to one or more signers, records how and when each person signed, and produces an executed copy with an audit trail the firm can rely on later. For a law firm, the executed copy also needs to end up in the right matter without someone downloading and re-uploading it.

The points that matter are signer order, signer roles, the consent statement each signer accepts, reminders and expiry, and a certificate of completion that ties the signatures to the exact document.

LawAOS signatures are built in, with no DocuSign or Adobe account needed. Signers can sign in order or in parallel with capacity labels such as Client, Attorney, Witness or Notary. The certificate of completion carries SHA-256 hashes and is appended to the executed PDF, which is saved as a new document in the matter and emailed to every party.

Fields
Place signature, initials, date, text and checkbox fields for each signer.
Signer capacity
Label each signer as Client, Attorney, Witness, Notary or a custom capacity, and choose whether they sign in order or in parallel.
Consent
Each signer draws or types a signature and accepts a versioned consent statement, which is recorded with the signature.
Follow-up
Unsigned requests get reminders, requests expire on a set date, and staff can extend the deadline or correct a recipient's details without starting again.

When the last signer finishes, completion processing appends the audit trail and certificate of completion to the PDF, saves it as a new document in the matter, and emails it to every party. The original draft stays in the matter's document history.

Clients sign at a secure signing link. They do not need a portal account, and signing does not happen inside the client portal.

Many jurisdictions accept electronic signatures for most commercial documents but set extra formalities for wills, deeds, powers of attorney and documents that need witnessing or notarisation. LawAOS records a Witness or Notary capacity on a signer, but whether a remote or electronic witness satisfies the formality is a question for the firm's own jurisdiction. Check your regulator's current rules before using e-signature for those documents.

  1. Draft in the editor

Create the document in the LawAOS editor, or from a firm document template, and add a signature block.

    See the module
  2. Add signers and fields

Choose signers, their capacity and their order, and place signature, initials, date, text and checkbox fields.

    See the module
  3. Send and track

Each signer gets a signing link. Reminders go out while the request is open, and staff can extend it or correct a recipient.

  4. Executed copy filed to the matter

The completed PDF with its certificate of completion is saved in the matter's documents and emailed to every party.

  5. Automate the follow-up

An automation can notify the owning team whenever a signature request is viewed, signed or declined.

Stated plainly, so you can decide before you sign up rather than after.

  • Only documents created in the LawAOS editor that contain a signature block can be sent for signature; arbitrary uploaded PDFs cannot.
  • There are no reusable signature templates.
  • The audit trail does not record geo-IP location.
  • Witnessing and notarisation formalities depend on the firm's jurisdiction; LawAOS records the signer's capacity but does not decide whether an electronic process satisfies the formality.
