A law firm intranet is the private internal site where attorneys and staff find firm knowledge, policies, announcements and ways to ask for help. It is for people inside the firm. A law firm extranet, or client hub, is the client-facing side, where clients see their own documents, messages and invoices.
In LawAOS the intranet is part of the workspace: a knowledge base with revision history, versioned policies with optional acknowledgement, a notice board for the firm or a department, Ask Hub for internal requests, and My Desk as each person's own working page. Embeds place Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Notion, Loom and similar pages inside the app.
The client-facing side is the LawAOS client portal, where each client sees only what the firm switches on for them.
- Intranet
- Internal only. Knowledge, policies, notices, requests and personal workspaces for firm members.
- Extranet or client hub
- External. Clients sign in to see documents shared with them, messages, invoices, work reports and matter status. In LawAOS this is the client portal.
- Why one system for both
- Both draw on the same matters and permissions, so an internal note stays internal and a shared document is shared on purpose.
- Finding precedents and practice notes in the knowledge base.
- Reading and acknowledging a new or updated policy.
- Seeing firm and department announcements on the notice board.
- Asking IT, facilities or HR for help through Ask Hub.
- Keeping notes, reminders and task widgets on a My Desk page.
- Opening the firm's Google Sheets or Notion pages without leaving the workspace.
A separate intranet is one more place to check, and pages drift out of date because nobody works there. Putting guidance, policies and notices inside the system where matters, time and documents already live means people pass through it daily, and read tracking and acknowledgement counts show whether a message landed.
Start with the material people ask for most often: the office manual, the IT and expenses policies, the conflicts and file-opening procedure, and the latest precedents for each practice group. Publish policies that need a signed record with acknowledgement switched on, and put everything else in the knowledge base with related pages linking them.
Then move recurring questions out of email. Leave requests, IT problems and facilities issues go to Ask Hub, and firm news goes on the notice board, so answers are findable later instead of buried in individual inboxes.

Stated plainly, so you can decide before you sign up rather than after.
- Ask Hub serves signed-in firm members only; it is not a request portal for people outside the workspace.
- Embeds display third-party pages inside LawAOS; they do not sync data, and they are not widgets for the firm's public website.
- Google Drive and Docs integration is wired but waiting on platform Google credentials; embedding a shared Google Doc works separately.
- Clients cannot upload documents through the client portal.
